How to Increase Booth Visits at an Expo

Booth traffic is the number one complaint at most expos. Exhibitors pay thousands for a stand and watch attendees walk past. The fix isn't a flashier booth — it's a structural change to how the floor works.

Run a digital booth passport game

A booth passport game gives every attendee a structured reason to visit booths they'd otherwise skip. With a digital stamp card, attendees scan a QR code at each booth to collect a stamp, complete the card, and redeem a prize.

Use tiered prizes, not just one grand prize

Single grand prizes lose attendees who fall behind early. Tiered prizes — small reward at 5 stamps, mid reward at 10, grand draw at full completion — keep momentum across the entire day.

Run a live leaderboard

Project a leaderboard on a screen near registration. Even simple top-10 leaderboards create competitive momentum that drives more booth visits.

Brief exhibitors on the passport

If exhibitors don't know about the passport, attendees will. Brief booth staff at the start of the day with the QR sign and a 30-second pitch on what to say to attendees who scan: 'Welcome — what brought you here today?' opens a real conversation.

Promote the welcome QR aggressively

Put the welcome QR on the show guide, the lanyard, the registration desk, the opening-address slide, and aisle signage. The earlier attendees enter the game, the more booths they visit.

Floor flow design

Layout matters. Don't cluster all the popular exhibitors together — spread them so attendees naturally walk past smaller booths to reach them. The passport game amplifies smart layout but can't fix a flawed one.

Frequently asked questions

Will this work for a small expo with just 20 booths?

Yes. Smaller expos benefit even more because the gap between popular and quiet booths is sharper. A passport game evens this out.

What if exhibitors don't want to participate?

Most do once they hear it drives traffic. For the few who don't, leave them out of the stamp card — but the rest of the floor still gets the lift.
